As announced, we were at the vernissage of Nina Braun’s exhibition “Lovers Rock” at the Helium Cowboy Artspace for some cold beer and to say hello to Nina. Nina has been doing Knit Art for some years now and is pretty successful in that area. She’s had a few exhibitions internationally so you might have seen some of her older pieces already. Like the knitted sneakers and other sculptures.
This time she concentrated on one big peace, the “Lovers Rock”. A huge rock with several knitted personas telling different storys. The clou is in the details. She worked 6 months on this great peace of art.
We did a little interview with her as well. So stay to tuned and see her describe her works in her own words.

For a long long time now I’ve been a huge fan of the works of “Phunk Studio” an art and design collective from Singapore. They work with brands like Nike, Nokia, MTV, Daimler Chrysler, Comme des Garcon, Levis, Tiger Beer and Salem, Habitat,….. and they are one of the most well known visual artists in asia. Their work is so stunning, inspiring and colorful. Whenever I see such nice arts and installations, I ask myself, why isn’t that possible to have nice artist installations and art in public spaces in Germany? You should really visit their website and add them on Facebook. I can’t find enough words for their fantastic work.

We both were a bit surprised when we entered the vernissage of Stefan Strumbel & Rüdiger Glatz at the Vicious Gallery yesterday. Both are kown for urban- and graffiti-art but as you can see, no urban art. ;) Perhaps St.Pauli red light district urban art …
A bit sad because I liked the photos of ruedione – Rüdiger Glatz.
It was nice to see that many people from others city came to see the vernissage. Meeting a few old friends unexpectedly was nice.
Mal sehen wie schnell die Musxxxi und Pimxxx Bilder gelöscht werden ;) More photos after the jump.…

It’s time to introduce a really talented fashion illustrator, friend and former colleage “Mikeal Kangas“. You might recognize him from some photos ;) He’s a really colorful person and perhaps that reflects in his illustrations. Everything is colorful and sometimes kind of surrealistic. What I like, is when he layers his stuff like on the first picture. But see for yourself and check out his works on his website. More after the jump.…

More and more small galleries and exibitions are popping up in Hamburg. Just around our corner more than 6 galleries opened the last 2 years. Here are some nice examples how nice Hamburg is growing.
The first pictures were taken at the “Yeahboy” exibition of the french photographer “Yves Drillet” and the secound pitures are at the “Raum linksrechts“. An artist from Cologne called “leBeat-André Kniepkamp” is showing his stuff.

11 artists. 7 floors. 147 steps. 11 arts. In 2009 the “Stilwerk” asked 11 Street Artists of the Vicious Gallery to paint their staircase. The list of artists couldn’t be nicer: Sozyone, KR from New York, Flying Förtress, Sebastian Freimauer, Mr. Nonski, Form 76, Golden Green, 1010, Nils Kasiske, Milk and Felix Schlüter. Now they are releasing a book about this project. Every artist resonsible for one chapter of the book. Of course, the “Vicious Gallery” is showing some peaces of those artists on the releasedate, october 7th.

A little art and illustration for Hamburg. Yesterday the “Pictoplasma Conference” made a stop in Hamburg with a lot of speakers and some movies to bring us closer to character-design. With lectures and presentations from different artists like “Siggi Eggertsson” known for the Gnarls Barkley Cover, “Rilla Alexander of Rinzen” who just finished her first book and superhero “Akinori Oishi” from Japan, who was funny as hell. We got a nice overview of the scence at the moment. They are going on tour and you should really visit if it’s in your area. They will be in Munic, Dundee, NYC and Düsseldorf.

“Mode 2” is one of THE graffiti-artists and he is having an exibition in Hamburg. I have been a huge fan for many years. So don’t miss the vernissage on saturday at the “Vicious Gallery“. More details here.
We left Hamburg to go to Stockholm and what happend? Stockholm is coming to Hamburg. The Swedish fashion label “Acne” will open a Pop-Up Archive store in Hamburgs Schanzen Quarter.
From the 7th -17th August 2009 the Archive store will be based in the mono concept store,
Rosenhofstr. 5, 20357 Hamburg, in the heart of the “Schanze”. The mono concept store is the home of the Hamburg fashion label mono concept and the mono gallery, which serves as a platform for young artists.
This will be the first time Acne opens an Archive store outside of Scandinavia. Next to old classics and rare recycled pieces there will also be heavily reduced pieces from the ss09 Acne collection.
